"Universities are where foundational discovery happens. They are where future inventors are trained. They are where translational innovation begins." During a wide-ranging keynote address at the NAI Annual Conference, John A. Squires, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), emphasized the critical role universities play in advancing American competitiveness, technological leadership, and economic growth. Director Squires described the National Academy of Inventors as "not simply an honor society" but a national inventor network and an increasingly important strategic national asset that elevates inventors and connects invention to public purpose. NAI is proud to partner formally with the USPTO through our Joint Partnership Agreement. We look forward to working together to accelerate America’s leadership in the technologies of tomorrow. During the conference, NAI recognized Director Squires for his leadership, service, and commitment to strengthening the nation's innovation economy with Honorary Membership. #NAI #NAI2026 #Invention #Innovation #IntellectualProperty #Technology
