In het weekend van 27 juni 2026 was John Leerdam, MFA, directeur-bestuurder van het Nationaal Slavernijmuseum, aanwezig tijdens de jaarlijkse oecumenische herdenkingsdienst ter ere van de afschaffing van de slavernijverleden in het Sint-Jan kathedraal in Den Bosch. ‘Elkaar Ontmoeten als Eenheid in Verscheidenheid’ was dit jaar het thema. 🤍 Tijdens deze herdenking werd er stilgestaan bij de gevolgen van het slavernijverleden en wat het vandaag betekent voor de kerk en de samenleving. Tegelijkertijd maakt het deel uit van bredere inspanningen van de kerkgemeenschappen om bij te dragen aan het proces van erkenning, heling en verzoening van het slavernijverleden. Wat de dienst dit jaar extra bijzonder maakte, was is dat onder andere ds. Rhoinde Doth van het Evangelische Broedergemeente (EBG), haar actieve steun uitsprak voor de totstandkoming van het Nationaal Slavernijmuseum. Met veel plezier kijk het museum uit naar een betekenisvolle samenwerking met deze kerkgemeenschappen in heel Nederland. ✨ ----------- Every year the national memorial service for the history of slavery is held in the Netherlands. Last weekend of June 27th 2026 it took place in the Sint-Jan cathedral in Den Bosch. John Leerdam, director of the National Slaverymuseum attended the service. This year’s theme was ‘ Meeting Eachother as Unity in Diversity’, and in that spirit reflection took place on the consequences of the history of slavery and what it means today for the church and society. The service is part of broader efforts of the church communities to contribute to the process of acknowledgment, healing and reconciliation. What makes this year particularly special is that, among others, Rev. Rhoinde Mijnals-Doth of the Moravian Church (EBG) has expressed a desire to actively contribute to the realization of the National Slavery Museum. The National Slavery Museum looks forward to a meaningful collaboration with these church communities.
