"Do you have 8 minutes to spare for saving a life?" I am so happy to announce that I partook in today's "Restart a Heart initiative" (RSAH), led by the Resuscitation Council UK. As a volunteer, I spoke with the public, answered questions and taught people how to do CPR and use a defibrillator. Although Cardiac Physiologist are typically expected to be well-versed in these scenarios (how scary), I still think it's incredibly important to bridge the gap between healthcare professionals & the general public, by teaching others these crucial skills, wherever possible! Also, fun but scary fact: Only 1 in 10 people survive cardiac arrests outside of the hospital, even though 80% of cardiac arrests occur at home, and 15% in the workplace. #WorldRestartaHeart #CPR #Defibrillators #CardiacPhysiology #UniversityofLeeds
