24 hours + tons of coffee = 1 solution for smarter investing. 💰 Looking at a stock price in isolation is dangerous. It is important to know how that price behaves relative to the broader market pulse. So how can beginner investors understand their stock portfolio better to make smarter choices? Last weekend, at the Carnegie Mellon University hackathon, TartanHacks 2026, I am incredibly proud of my team and I to build and present EvalPortfolio, an MVP that bridges this gap! EvalPorfolio is a "Portfolio Health Check" that stresses user holdings against the three major silent portfolio killers: Inflation, S&P 500 lag, and Volatility. It helps beginners to test their stock portfolio choices and ease their onset into the world of investments. For my team and I, it was a sprint to go from a whiteboard sketch to a functional tool in just 24 hours, but seeing the demo work during the presentation was worth every sleepless minute. Thank you to all the judges who stopped by during the project expo and to the incredible sponsors (Capital One, Visa, BNY, Conway, and more) who inspired the project! A massive shoutout to my teammates Andrew Chen and Luke Bailey for the grind. And thank you to ScottyLabs for a great event! Check out our GitHub and Demo in the comments below! Question for the reader: When analyzing your portfolio, which macro indicator stresses you out the most right now? #TartanHacks #CMU #FinTech #Investing #SoftwareEngineering #DataScience #Innovation
