Did you enjoy the images and live broadcasts of the Artemis II mission? We have our space communications infrastructure to thank for that. Our Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program includes both our Near Space Network and Deep Space Network. These are large radio communications networks that allow us to support space missions from low Earth orbit to the farthest reaches of our solar system. As we bring more humans farther into space, the demand for quick space communications goes up. We spoke with Greg Heckler, NASA SCaN Deputy Program Manager, to hear how we’re planning for the future of deep space communications.
