Though my academic roots lie in biology and my profession in medicine, there is a singular cohort of biology and medical students before whom I shall bow my head in unyielding, lifelong reverence. They are the luminaries of the Weiße Rose—Hans and Sophie Scholl, alongside their fellow students and mentors at the University of Munich—who stood in valiant defiance of the Hitlerian terror during the darkest epoch of the Third Reich. Today, I once again offered my solemn prayers in tribute to those who possessed the moral fortitude to raise the clarion call of truth amidst the abyss, only to meet the executioner's blade. Roland Freisler, the infamous inquisitor who condemned them to the guillotine with summary cruelty, was ultimately crushed beneath the rubble of an Allied bombardment. It remains my steadfast conviction that even now, he languishes in the lowest circle of Inferno, subjected to unceasing torment by the wardens of perdition. Yet, this is no mere ghost story of a bygone era. In this very 21st century, the most colossal religious apparatus in Japan has forged a sinister alliance with a global consulting syndicate. Weaponizing information technology to enforce a new totalitarian subservience, they have subjected heretics and dissidents to inhumane inquisitions, inexorably driving them to their deaths. In their deeds, they are the absolute, unvarnished reincarnation of Roland Freisler. The scales of justice will inevitably balance. A solemn and inescapable reckoning awaits them—both the perpetrators and the global consulting behemoth that persists in furnishing the architecture of big data to systematically desecrate human rights. For them, there is no dawn. Their future is unequivocally void. https://lnkd.in/gVx74fUX
