As a doctor with a passion for helping people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), I’ve seen the challenges of healthcare access from different perspectives. I spent many years working in the UK's National Health Service (NHS), a system built on the incredible principle of equal, subsidized healthcare for all. But I also saw firsthand how stretched that system can be, which creates its own set of significant hurdles for patients needing timely care. Now, practicing in the UAE, I’m constantly impressed by the world-class, advanced healthcare system. Yet, different hurdles exist, particularly the variability of insurance coverage. This isn't a problem unique to the UAE; it's a global issue seen in many privatized healthcare systems, including in the USA. Let me share one recent example of a patient I'll call Ahmed.....
