Not that many people know that Swiss engineering and hardware have long been a market leader in the professional audio and film industries - where Swiss names such as Studer (https://lnkd.in/dMJ5JdXd) and Weiss Engineering have become staples in high-end studios. 🎛️ Today, I am happy to report that Sebastian Gliga and his team at PSI Paul Scherrer Institut are proudly carrying on the tradition, using tip-of-the-spear X-ray technology to recover previously unrecoverable signals stored on tape. This is possible thanks to their use of the Swiss Light Source, a 288m circular particle accelerator - bringing electrons to 99.999998 percent of the speed of light. 💡 It was a privilege to visit their lab. As tapes continue to degrade with every passing week, our collective ability to read our history is dwindling. Sebastian Gliga is tapping into a market in a race against time - already garnering significant interest from various public and private archiving organizations, broadcasters, record companies, and even the Montreux Jazz Festival. Still in the early stages of the journey, I am excited to follow their progress as they tackle this crucial problem - keep up the good work! 🚀
