The European Union recognizes that the construction sector is responsible for approximately 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. The revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) requires zero-emission buildings from 2028 for the public sector and 2030 for all new buildings. After a period of conception, implementation, and dissemination, the NEB (Net Zero Emissions) movement has taken on a life of its own, with tangible results.
