We sat down with Paulo, CEO of Instituto Semear and Heloisa, one of their mentees, to hear firsthand how mentorship is reshaping lives in Brazil. Instituto Semear is a Brazilian nonprofit that has been transforming the trajectory of low-income university students since 2010. Their model is built on three things: scholarships, mentorship, and access to a real network. Not charity in the traditional sense, but a structured system that gives young people the connections and support they need to stay in school, land their first job, and build a career they actually want. Talking to Paulo, you understand the vision: create a pipeline where talented students who lack access get matched with mentors and companies willing to invest in their potential. Talking to Heloisa, you see the result, someone whose path changed because the right person showed up at the right time. What struck us most was how closely their approach mirrors what we believe at My Social Spark: that the right connection at the right time can change everything. That mentorship is not a nice-to-have, it is infrastructure. And that when you build bridges between people who wouldn't otherwise meet, you create opportunities that didn't exist before. Instituto Semear works with partners like Itaú, Embraer, Unilever, and Morgan Stanley. Their numbers speak for themselves: over 90% employment rate among their students, near-zero dropout. For us, this interview was a reminder of why we do what we do. Whether it's connecting a foreign startup to the Brazilian market or helping a first-generation college student find a mentor, the mechanism is the same. Trust, access, and someone willing to open the door. Proud to share this story. More to come. #mentorship #brazil #socialimpact #connections #institutosemear #mysocialspark
