Data Scientist | F1 Fan | Master of IT in Business (Data Science & Analytics) + BSc (Computing & Law) @ SMU
Reflecting on my 2025 and my time at Singapore Management University 6 months ago, I finished my studies at SMU with both a BSc (Computing & Law) and Master of IT in Business (Data & Science Analytics). I could summarise my 4 years with 4 numbers: 4️⃣ internships (RightShip, Accenture, GXS Bank, Infineon Technologies) - learnt lots, made friends, earn some 3️⃣ years of Dean's List - I only got 3 because I did not have enough mods to do in my last year! 2️⃣ degrees - I crammed 2 degrees in 4 years (I genuinely reached a flow state at one point when I was doing full time internship, some bachelor's classes and some master's classes) 1️⃣ graduate award - Paul S. Goodman Learning Innovation Award Academics aside, I think the biggest takeaway from uni learning how to solve problems. I learnt this not only in class and projects, but also outside of class being part of the organising committee of Vivace 2022 and the executive committee of SMU Business Intelligence and Analytics 2024/25. I also managed to be part of 3 overseas opportunities, a SMU School of Computing and Information Systems Data Analytics SMU-X Overseas mod in Bangkok, a SMU Yong Pung How School of Law SMU-X Overseas mod in Taiwan and attended that Global Universities Presidents and Leaders Summit 2024 in Hong Kong through SMU Master of IT in Business. These were fond memories to me, which allowed me to explore the world a little and learn about different cultures. Some special mentions: - Prof How Khang - for helping the C&L students with any help we needed with our course - my fyp mates (Yue Ying, Yeow Kai, Eugene, Zhiyi, Edward) - my close circle of friends in SMU C&L - Dylan Teoh - my good friend from poly whom I bidded for classes together and my commute buddy - Jeremy Cheong Zhou Ming - my occasional mid-class/intern lunch buddy even though we have never had the same class or worked at the same place And thank you to the many people that I have crossed path, friends, colleagues, professors. I can only remember good things in SMU! As I head into 2026 fresh, I am also happy to announce that I have started my career as a Data Scientist at Synthesis since October. I am happy to be around smart and intelligent people, and excited for what lies ahead! (also I have kinda been in a few SMU marketing materials, but this banner in front of Bencoolen MRT has been up for almost 3 years and still up when I went past this place yesterday 😭)
