Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) Professor Megan Munsie and her interdisciplinary team have secured $1.5 million from the Federal Government to explore how children and young people want to be involved in decisions about the use of their stem cells in research. The three‑year project will place children and young people at the centre of decision‑making about how their donated cells are used over time, and how institutions can meaningfully support their involvement. The diverse team will co‑produce practical tools such as adaptable consent and re‑consent templates, developmentally appropriate communication resources and youth‑informed governance recommendations. Together, these outcomes aim to strengthen trust, respect young people’s evolving rights and support the responsible adoption of stem cell‑based medical innovations. 👏 Congratulations to all involved: Leukaemia Foundation, UsherKids Australia, Muscular Dystrophy Australia, Children's Medical Research Institute, Gene Technology Access Centre, PRAXIS Australia Ltd, Australasian Biospecimen Network Association (ABNA), the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS), Child and Adolescent Health Service and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine – reNEW.
