A new level of real-time visibility in aircraft turnaround operations. ✈️ With KAZE, our AI-powered camera-based turnaround monitoring system, Munich Airport is taking aircraft handling to the next level. For the first time, all turnaround activities between on-block and off-block are captured through a shared, objective, real-time view. Using high-resolution cameras and intelligent image recognition, KAZE automatically detects key milestones such as passenger bridge docking, fueling, boarding, and baggage handling. Every event is timestamped, creating a reliable data foundation that helps operational teams coordinate more effectively, identify deviations early, and better predict departure readiness. Since March 2026, KAZE has been supporting operations at Terminal 2, helping to improve collaboration across all partners, increase process stability, and enhance punctuality and operational efficiency. KAZE is part of a broader portfolio of projects co-funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Until 2027, Munich Airport will receive approximately €4.6 million in EU funding across several CEF-supported initiatives that advance the digitalisation of airport operations, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient European transport network.
