What if an engineering team could help manufacturers cut energy costs while training the next generation of energy and manufacturing professionals? That is the dual purpose of MSU’s Industrial Training and Assessment Center, led by Kristen Cetin, Red Cedar Distinguished Professor in civil and environmental engineering. The U.S. Department of Energy-funded center provides no-cost energy, productivity and waste assessments to small- and medium-sized manufacturers and commercial buildings while giving students hands-on experience in real facilities. After implementing ITAC recommendations, KUKA’s Warren facility reported a 20% decrease in electricity use, a 25% reduction in water use, a 35% increase in recycling rates and annual savings of $127,975.
