Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, made history this week in Athens as the first-ever representative of the cruise sector invited to speak at the Η ΝΑΥΤΕΜΠΟΡΙΚΗ | NAFTEMPORIKI Shipping Conference. Joining leaders from ports, shipbuilding and maritime logistics, he delivered a clear message:  ⚓ Cruising must be recognised and planned as a long-term maritime activity   ⚓ Future growth in Greece will be driven by coordinated infrastructure planning, investment certainty and strong partnerships between the public and private sectors In a discussion shaped by geopolitics, energy transition and global trade, he emphasised that the industry’s next phase of growth will depend on infrastructure readiness, coordination and long-term vision. He highlighted Greece’s strategic importance within the Cruise Division’s Mediterranean deployment – supported by over 500 planned calls in 2026 across more than 20 ports – and underlined the need to match this opportunity with modern infrastructure, efficient operations and strong public–private partnerships. A central theme of his address was the importance of a coordinated national cruise roadmap for Greece – aligning infrastructure development, tourism strategy, destination management and sustainability under a shared, long-term vision. #MSCCruises
