This isn't just a minor update; it is a full-scale evolution toward a But with new standards come new challenges. Here are the 3 "Hard Truth" hurdles for 2026: 1. The standard explicitly states that safety must be achieved at the ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ถ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐บ๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, not just at the treatment plant gates. This places a massive responsibility on auditors and specialists to account for deterioration within aging distribution networks. 2. ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ "๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป" ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด: Annex A now lists "๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป"โemerging hazards like microplastics and endocrine disruptors. While currently non-mandatory for some, the standard "earmarks" them for future mandatory inclusion. The challenge? Most local labs currently lack the capacity or instrumentation to test for these at scale. 3. ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ (๐ช๐ฆ๐ฃ๐): Compliance with numerical limits is no longer enough. Implementing and maintaining a comprehensive WSPโfrom catchment to consumerโis now a compulsory input. For many smaller entities, moving from "sampling" to "holistic risk management" requires a level of technical expertise that is currently in short supply. We are moving away from reactive testing and toward The transition will be difficult, but in a water-stressed nation, it is non-negotiable. #SANS241 #WaterQuality #SouthAfrica #WaterSafetyPlan #SABS #Compliance #EnvironmentalAuditing #WaterSecurity
