🤔 How did galaxies fuel their intense star formation at cosmic noon? 🤔 New research by #MPE scientists led by Jean-Baptiste Jolly and Jianhang Chen using #NOEMA and #JWST shows that massive disk galaxies at this epoch (~8-10 billion years ago) were surprisingly organized, featuring spiral arms and bars. These structures are key! They actively transport cold gas inward, sustaining star formation across the galactic disk. This challenges previous views of early galaxies as primarily chaotic and merger-driven. More: https://lnkd.in/eAe8r3cy
