š Congratulations to Yi Zhang, MPE Alumna, on Winning the IAU PhD Prize! We're thrilled to announce that Yi Zhang, a former PhD student at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (#MPE), has been awarded the prestigious #IAU PhD Prize by The International Astronomical Union for her groundbreaking dissertation, "Hot Circumgalactic Medium in the eROSITA All-Sky Survey." Yi's research, conducted under the supervision of Kirpal Nandra, director of the high-energy group at MPE, Gabriele Ponti, Andrea Merloni and Johan Comparat, utilized data from the #eROSITA telescope to study the faint X-ray emission of the hot circumgalactic medium (CGM) surrounding galaxies. Her work provides crucial insights into #GalaxyEvolution, feedback processes, and the distribution of baryons in the universe. Yi will present her work at the IAU General Assembly in Rome in August 2027. This is the second time an MPE researcher has received this honor. We also extend congratulations to Ruancun Li, Postdoc in the Infrared group at MPE, who received an honorable mention for his PhD thesis. ā”ļø https://lnkd.in/edcRGnWx
