🌌 Advancing astronomical research requires more than groundbreaking science. It demands reliable, modern infrastructure that keeps pace with discovery. We’re pleased to announce the successful completion of a major infrastructure upgrade for the data platform used by #MPE’s research groups for High-Energy #Astrophysics, and Optical and Interpretative #Astronomy (OPINAS). Over the past two years, we’ve migrated from a legacy setup to a modern, cloud-native environment hosted by our sister institute Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF). This project strengthens our long-standing collaboration: the platform is now one of the largest vCPU users on the #MPCDF #HPC Cloud. With this upgrade, MPE is deploying innovative solutions to meet modern research needs by making full use of the flexibility and scalability provided by the MPCDF HPC-Cloud. The transition delivers: 🔹 A significantly faster, more stable experience for researchers 🔹 Elimination of shared-resource bottlenecks that previously impacted workflow continuity 🔹 Updated scientific software stacks and modernized documentation 🔹 Real-time system usage visualization and a forward-looking initiative to track computational carbon footprint across workloads 🔹 An AI-assisted onboarding tool to help new team members get started quickly A special thank you to Joel Gil Leon, who served as the lead architect for the migration, ensuring a seamless and smooth transition. Reliable infrastructure isn’t just about technology, it’s about empowering scientists to focus on what matters most: discovery. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Onward to the next chapter of research computing! 🚀 #ResearchComputing #RSE #ScientificInfrastructure #MaxPlanck #DataPlatform #OpenScience #TechLeadership #SustainableComputing
