How can #AI support #research safely and effectively? In a recent workshop at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, we explored this question with colleagues from across the institute community. Not just scientists, but everyone interested in understanding the opportunities and limits of AI. Together, we clarified common misunderstandings, discussed practical use cases, and highlighted how important it is to use AI responsibly, especially when working with sensitive research data. #DataSecurity and safe handling of data remain central to how we approach AI at #MPE. We were also pleased to highlight the excellent work of our colleagues at GWDG - Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen #GWDG, who host our secure, self-hosted AI models. This workshop is the first in a series led by Joel Gil Leon, DevOps Architect and AI Lead at MPE, covering everything from AI basics to the cutting edge of agentic AI for science.
