Traditional Emirati architecture was shaped by years of experience facing extremely hot and arid climates, utilizing limited locally available materials. The Wind Tower (Barjeel) ; A Masterpiece of Climate Engineering Undoubtedly, the most iconic element of intelligent architecture in this region is the Wind Tower, or "Barjeel." Rooted in ancient Iranian architecture—called "Badgir" in Persian—it reached the southern shores of the Persian Gulf through trade and cultural exchange, adapted by the local merchant community and integrated into indigenous cultural systems. Early examples in Dubai's historic Bastakiya district were built by Persian traders some 100 years ago. Wind towers channeled prevailing breezes into interior spaces, significantly reducing indoor temperatures without any energy consumption. Research shows they kept indoor temperatures below 35°C during the midday heat of July and September, while outdoor temperatures reached nearly 40°C. This system reduced CO2 emissions by 74 to 111 kg monthly. Reviving Yesterday's Wisdom in Today's Architecture Today, leading architects are creating innovative works inspired by this valuable heritage. The Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, designed by Norman Foster, is a brilliant example. Its 82 to 122-meter steel fins not only pay homage to falconry—a practice embedded in Emirati culture—but also reinterpret traditional wind towers to channel cool air into the building. Across the UAE and the Gulf, architects now use sun path and wind flow simulation software, layering insights from traditional building orientation to optimize energy efficiency. Wind towers are now integrated not as mere ornaments, but as fully functional, sustainable design features in government buildings, cultural centers, and modern residential complexes. At Morrakh, we believe authentic architecture tells the story of a land's history, culture, and identity. Beyond our commercial activities in importing advanced building materials, we are committed to accurately presenting the history and art of this region and building bridges of friendship between neighboring nations. We bridge the meaningful past with a smart future, grounded in a deep understanding of this land's history and art; And Ahmad Hashemi, founder of the Morrakh group, with over 219,000 subscribers on the Movarekh Podcast YouTube channel, has defined a cultural mission alongside his business activities (import and export). By explaining the shared historical and cultural roots of the region's nations—especially in architecture and civilization—he takes an effective step toward raising historical awareness and strengthening friendship and coexistence between the people of Iran and the Arab countries of the PersianGulf. ·Awad, J., & Boudiaf, B.
