President Trump has nominated Brian Johnson, a former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau deputy director, to lead the agency for the next five years. Johnson served as CFPB deputy director under Kathy Kraninger during Trump's first term, a period when the bureau pulled back significantly on enforcement activity. The Mortgage Bankers Association welcomed the nomination, with president and CEO Robert Broeksmit pointing to Johnson's track record at the bureau and in financial services policy. His confirmation now heads to the Senate Banking Committee, where it will face opposition from Sen. Elizabeth Warren. The CFPB submitted a rulemaking on loan originator compensation requirements in June 2025, and that proposal has been sitting without movement since. Brokers will wait and see whether Johnson will move the issue forward if confirmed. https://lnkd.in/eme23TEs #MortgageBroker #MortgageIndustry #CFPB #MortgageRegulation #LoanOfficer #MortgageCompliance #MortgageNews
