I am beyond excited to share that I just got awarded the iF DESIGN Talent Award 2022 with the overwhelming extra of receiving the title „special price - best of the year“ AND the „Stipendium der Stiftung des Deutschen Volkes“ within one week. I’m still positively shocked by this experience and can’t tell you how proud I am of myself! Dropping out of school, finding and fighting my way back into the system (3x 11th class; 2x 12th class; 1 x 13th class), graduating as a graphic design assistant, and doing a LOT of stuff here and there (Merchandise for Cologne Rappers and Musicians Mo-Torres, Cat Ballou, Invo, Cengiz and more), 5 years of working as museums technician all around Germany (Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, HDG Bonn/Leipzig, Schloss Charlottenburg, Grimmwelt, HLM, MGB, Galerie König, FES Bonn,…) building and crashing my clothing brands (Dominant CGN, Koala Kompany, 670) - my life was always stirring. I want to see, smell, touch, taste, hear and learn with a practical approach. I want to use my "normal" senses and my creative spider-sense. School only provided me years and years of theory, and as a creative guy who wants to learn from the environment outside, experimenting and experiencing, it’s a hell of underwhelming boredom. Learning to blindly repeat stuff when your passion is to create with vision slowly cripples your soul. Most of the time you're not even aware why you are not matching the system. You are just excusing yourself for being different. In front of others. In front of yourself. And for many creative-minded personalities, bad grades don’t come from being lazy or lacking brain function. It comes from being unable to express yourself. Teachers that don’t have any pedagogical value and unable to guide you in the right directions. Plus a long lasting misunderstanding between the scholl systems needs and aim for structure and my need for part-time zero structure, being open-minded, open-hearted and getting lost in the flow of expression, research,… I think related people know what I mean. So today, all of that struggle is blown away. It just helped me shape myself, and here I am: a winner through dedication and many self-taught skills! WTF! BIG Thanks to everyone supporting me in my personal and design-related evolution - especially Bergische Universität Wuppertal that is dong an awesome job handling my impulsiveness and truely matching my idea of getting taught.
