One additional thing that I think can assist leaders in recruiting and/or retaining teachers is putting a focus on self-care. I did not come up with this fully on my own. After reading other posts and doing some Google searches I came upon moving teachers’ self-care to the front. There were various sources that suggested using things such as self-care circles or self-care spaces. I have actually seen two schools that have “spa” like rooms for their teachers. Both schools utilize them differently, but both have massage chairs, feet massagers, aromatherapy and low light settings. These spaces offer teachers a place to unwind and relax. I don’t think that a self-care circle or self-care “spa” space is the answer to getting teachers or keeping them however, I think it helps. Teachers tend to not get the nicest of things. They tend to take the short end of the stick. So, having a nice relaxing space that caters to their needs and allows them an escape is desired. It’s an actual relaxing mental break, silence. #GSULead
