We were proud to sponsor the 9th UCL Early Careers Symposium last week, a brilliant showcase of emerging talent in vision science and ophthalmic research. The day highlighted exciting work across disease mechanisms, visual neuroscience, ageing, and translational medicine, with many presenters supported through Moorfields Eye Charity funding. Our director of grants and research, Dr Peter B., introduced our new grants strategy launching in July, which will increase funding nationally as well as through dedicated schemes for UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. We were pleased to recognise two outstanding contributors. Jakub Kubiak received the Moorfields Eye Charity Lay Abstract Award for his research mapping immune cells involved in uveitis, which was presented by Dr Bloomfield. Georgia Milne received the Best Image Award for her 3D‑printed visualisation titled Vertices of a Human Cortex. A further highlight was Professor Andrew Dick’s Growing Up in Science interview, which offered thoughtful reflections on career paths, personal passions and the importance of balance. Enhanced PhD studentships, including increased stipends and an additional year of study, will help support the next generation of researchers. It was a fantastic day celebrating curiosity, collaboration and the future of eye health research. To read more about the event, click here: https://lnkd.in/eCrbrmDB
