Living with an eye condition goes beyond its effects on the eye. We interviewed Dr Michael Crossland, an optometrist and senior research fellow at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and Rachael Canavan, a PhD student with a background in child mental health and developmental psychology, about their research investigating how vision loss affects the mental health of young people. The project involves interviewing a working group of six young people and twelve parents with sight loss to hear first-hand experiences and where they feel they could be supported more. Some examples include counselling tailored for young people with sight loss and more opportunities to connect with other young people with visual impairments.
