Reimagining repair: exploring circular business models for electrical and electronic products Recently, Monash University’s #CircularEconomyLabs Aleasha McCallion Jennifer Macklin and Lauren Brumley joined partners with Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence John Gertsakis, and Griffith University Leanne Wiseman and #AustralianRepairNetwork to deliver the first workshop of the project series: Repair Possibilities for Australia. The session brought together repair professionals, electronics businesses, researchers and community groups to explore new business models that make repair more accessible, convenient and scalable. Participants shared experiences with common barriers, from a lack of awareness and local services to design and warranty limitations, and shared practical ideas to embed repair in everyday life - ideas were diverse yet grounded, refined, and highly practical. A snapshot of the prompts and framing we used to guide the brainstorming can be seen in the following slides. Next steps: The ideas developed will inform a public whitepaper, due for release in early 2026, and guide our upcoming Workshop Series. Through this series, we’ll apply a capability framework to shape a plan for a real-world repair pilot in the City of Sydney. Thank you to everyone who contributed their insights and passion for helping reimagine a repair-ready future.
