“In my career, I’ve definitely gravitated towards where my lived experience takes me, to put something back into the community. I do have quite a bit of lived experience from my background of living in the out-of-home care system. And I’m lucky enough that I've got the professional qualifications to be able to go in on the other side of the glass and be able to help. That’s been really rewarding.” Alana is a Monash Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences-trained nurse working in community health, drawn to the places and people her life has taken her – preventive health; GP settings serving some of Melbourne's most disadvantaged communities; a forensic mental health placement at Thomas Embling Hospital that opened possibilities for where her career could go. A recipient of the University's Achieving Potential Scholarship, she knows what it means to face barriers – and what it means to have them removed. This is what a Monash education in healthcare looks like. Thank you to our alumni who donate to Monash scholarships, and open doors for Monash students. #MonashUni #ProudToBeMonash
