Dr Penny Fowler AM is an exceptional Australian leader whose career has shaped the nation’s media, tourism and cultural landscape. Today, we proudly confer upon her Monash University’s highest honour - an Honorary Doctorate. Across both corporate and not‑for‑profit sectors, Dr Fowler has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to community impact. She is Chairman of the Herald & Weekly Times and serves as News Corp Australia’s Community Ambassador, alongside leadership roles including Chair of Tourism Australia and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. Deeply committed to social impact, Dr Fowler has served as Chairman of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, helping strengthen one of Australia’s most significant fundraising efforts for paediatric care. Her broader contributions span many community organisations including the National Gallery of Australia, Cruden Farm, and the Calvert‑Jones Foundation. A champion for opportunity and equity, Dr Fowler supports initiatives that uplift young people and families, including her work with the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation and food relief organisation SecondBite. In 2024, Dr Fowler was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her service to the community. We congratulate Dr Fowler on this well-deserved recognition.
