Today we honour Professor Emerita Jenny Martin AC FAA, an internationally acclaimed scientist whose pioneering discoveries have transformed our understanding of protein function, redox biology and bacterial virulence. Her work reveals the three-dimensional structures of proteins, a foundation of modern drug design. Across a distinguished career, Professor Martin has held senior roles across the sector and combined research excellence with strong advocacy. A global authority in protein crystallography, she has solved more than 140 protein structures and authored over 150 publications, generating foundational insights that continue to drive modern drug discovery. A passionate advocate for science and equity, Professor Martin has contributed to national and international research communities through advisory roles with organisations including the International Union of Crystallography and the Australian Synchrotron. Throughout her career, she has mentored and inspired more than 100 scientists. Her contributions have been recognised with numerous honours, including appointment as a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2018 for eminent service to science, and the award of four nationally competitive fellowships, including an inaugural Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship.
