After losing his father at the age of six, he moved from Goa to Mumbai with his mother, grew up in a modest chawl, studied under streetlights, and walked barefoot to attend a municipal Marathi-medium school. Those circumstances could have defined his limitations. Instead, they shaped his determination. The young boy who once studied under streetlights went on to become one of India's most distinguished scientists and innovation leaders - serving as Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), receiving honorary doctorates from šš š®š§š¢šÆšš«š¬š¢šš¢šš¬ š°šØš«š„šš°š¢šš, and being conferred all three of India's highest civilian honours: šššš¦š šš”š«š¢, šššš¦š šš”š®š¬š”šš§, šš§š šššš¦š šš¢šš”š®š¬š”šš§. A Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), former Chair of the National Innovation Foundation - India, and Advisor to the Maharashtra State Innovation Society, Dr. Mashelkar continues to inspire generations with his vision and unwavering commitment to innovation.
