Looking back at earlier decades, it’s clear that engineering once carried a deeper sense of craftsmanship. Before today’s intense competition and production pressures, engineers balanced function, quality, and aesthetics— and genuinely enjoyed creating machines that reflected their pride in the work. In contrast, modern engineering often reduces “optimization” to cost-cutting alone. We’ve lost some of that design soul. That’s why I believe every design engineer should regularly study machines built before the 2000s. They are full of lessons in elegance, clarity, and thoughtful engineering. The pneumatic control panel shown in this video is a customized Festo design made for a client. It immediately caught my attention. There’s a level of care and intention in it that you can’t ignore. I wish I could meet the engineer behind it—just to thank them sincerely for keeping that spirit of design alive. #Engineering #MechanicalEngineering #IndustrialDesign #MachineDesign #Automation #Pneumatics #Festo #Manufacturing #DesignEngineering #EngineeringMindset
