The new year has been off to a busy but productive start! On 8 and 9 January 2026, Singapore hosted an incoming visit from Japan’s Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy Onoda Kimi. Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo and Minister Onoda signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on #Quantum Science, Technology, and Innovation, between the Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan. This marks the first ever quantum-specific bilateral agreement that Singapore has signed with a partner country, in which Singapore 🇸🇬 and Japan 🇯🇵 will explore collaboration in eight areas including research and innovation, security policy, as well as commercialisation and development of quantum use cases. The agreement signing also commemorates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan in 2026. The Ministers also witnessed the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding between Singapore start-up Entropica Labs and Japanese start-up Yaqumo Inc., represented by their CEOs Tommaso Demarie and Nakashoji Kazuhiro. Both companies are moving ahead to collaborate on the development of quantum computing hardware and software, and are a concrete example of how quantum companies in both countries are working hand-in-hand.
