PM-KUSUM matters today more than ever. At a time when India has crossed 280+ GW of installed renewable capacity and is marching toward 500 GW by 2030, the real question is: how do we make this transition inclusive, decentralised, and farmer-centric? PM-KUSUM quietly answers that. It sits at the intersection of three critical priorities: • Energy security through decentralised solar generation • Water-energy-agriculture nexus reform via solar irrigation • Farmer income augmentation by enabling prosumers What makes the scheme especially relevant today: 🔹 From subsidy to sustainability Solarising agriculture feeders and pumps reduces DISCOM losses while providing reliable daytime power—shifting the narrative from recurring subsidies to long-term efficiency. 🔹 Decentralisation is no longer optional With increasing grid complexity and renewable integration challenges, distributed generation under KUSUM enhances resilience and reduces transmission stress. 🔹 Climate action with community ownership Unlike large-scale RE projects, KUSUM places farmers at the heart of the transition—turning them into stakeholders, not just beneficiaries. 🔹 A platform for innovation Agrovoltaics, feeder-level solarisation, and localised energy markets can all evolve from this foundation. Yet, the next phase will require sharper execution: • Innovative financing models • Stronger state-level ownership • Convergence with water-use efficiency programmes • Private sector participation with safeguards PM-KUSUM is not just a scheme—it is a blueprint for democratising energy in India. As we scale ambition, its success will define whether our transition is not just green—but also just. #RenewableEnergy #PMKUSUM #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #Decentralisation #SustainableDevelopment
