We are proud to support Jalal Haidar, a master’s student at the University of Rostock, as he conducts his thesis research with our team at Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH (MMG). Jalal’s thesis, “Incorporation of Hull Efficiency Changes into the Early Design Stage of a Propeller,” lies at the intersection of naval architecture, data-driven modelling, and practical propeller design. Under the supervision of Andreas Büsken at MMG, Jalal has developed a machine-learning-based tool capable of predicting how a propeller redesign impacts the entire propulsive efficiency chain — from wake fraction and thrust deduction through to overall propulsive efficiency — without requiring model test data. The result is a deployable early-stage design prediction tool that has been successfully validated using real MMG project data.
