We had the opportunity to hear from our Group CEO Masahiro Kihara in a fireside chat with Michal Katz, Head of Investment & Corporate Banking, Mizuho Americas during his visit to NYC this week. Masahiro Kihara shared his vision for Mizuho as a leading global bank with deep Japanese heritage, combining a culture of trust, respect, and long-term relationships with the scale and connectivity of a global franchise. He spoke about the concept of kokoro zashi (“志”) – a sense of purpose and responsibility that recognizes the interconnectedness of people, businesses and nations – and the role Mizuho can play in fostering collaboration across borders. The discussion also highlighted Japan’s economic revival, improved corporate governance, portfolio optimization opportunities, and growing global investor interest in the country. Finally, Masahiro Kihara emphasized Mizuho’s commitment to its employees, including investing in reskilling and development opportunities to help them succeed in an AI-enabled future.
