The 2026 Mid West Economic Forum, hosted by the Mid West Chamber of Commerce & Industry on 2–3 June, brought together government, industry, and community leaders to discuss the Mid West’s economic outlook and future growth opportunities, reinforcing the region’s importance to Western Australia’s economy through its strong resources, energy, and export sectors. Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU), together with joint venture partner Beach Energy Ltd, sponsored the Welcome Dinner, which marked the opening of the forum. The sold-out event featured culinary creations by Chef Csaba Sellei, providing attendees with a valuable opportunity to connect and network, alongside a showcase of the Mid West’s exceptional local produce. The forum at Geraldton’s Queen’s Park Theatre focused on collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning to unlock the region’s potential. The Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Regional Development, described the Mid West as an emerging strategic energy hub, with strong opportunities across gas, renewables, and critical minerals. Key themes throughout the forum included economic diversification, investment confidence, and the importance of government and industry collaboration to support long-term sustainable growth. MEPAU’s Head of Government, Stakeholder Relations and Approvals, Kris Waddington, also contributed to the Energy Panel, sharing insights on the Mid West energy transition and the opportunities and challenges ahead. Overall, the forum delivered a positive outlook for the region, highlighting opportunities for investment, job creation, and long-term growth.
