Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) was proud to participate in the CO2CRC Limited CCS Symposium 2026, Australia’s leading CCS event, held in Melbourne, where industry leaders engaged in discussion on the critical role of CCS in emission reduction. MEPAU’s VP Business Management and Growth, Joe Ariyaratnam, presented on “Cygnus CCS and Mitsui’s international CCS portfolio development,” highlighting the importance of CCS as a practical decarbonisation solution and the development of a global portfolio, with a particular focus on the pace of development to ensure it aligns with demand and government policy. MEPAU was also well represented at the forum by Richard Osbon and Mark McLean, who were also able to visit the CO2CRC Otway International Test Centre, where CCS technology has been developed and deployed in the field for over 15 years. This year’s theme, “The role of CCS in confronting energy realities,” sparked conversations on turning ambition into action and accelerating deployment in the region. Australia’s Resources Minister Madeleine King said that we will need to draw on every tool at our disposal to achieve net zero by 2050, and that CCS will play a significant part in achieving that goal. The symposium was a great opportunity to connect and share ideas with industry peers.
