Nearly 4 in 5 respondents to our 2026 State of Warfighting Acquisition Survey said the Department of War’s warfighting acquisition system is moderately or extremely effective at rapidly fielding capabilities. Almost half identified speed as the most meaningful impact of recent reforms. These findings suggest a broader cultural shift underway: from compliance-centered processes toward faster, more iterative capability delivery. At the same time, respondents were clear that important challenges remain, especially around consistently scaling industry-driven solutions. The takeaway isn’t that transformation is complete, but there is optimism about the direction the acquisition system is heading.
