As adoption of artificial intelligence accelerates across industries, one of the most important questions facing leaders right now isn’t just how to make the best use of the technology, but what kind of future we will build with it. In a new op-ed, Richard Locke, John C Head III Dean at MIT Sloan, underscores the critical choice we must make: Will we use AI to simply automate existing tasks, or will we develop it to expand human ability and drive collective progress? While concerns about job displacement and disruption are high, Locke, PhD ’89, argues that research from MIT economists and management experts shows that AI’s greatest impact comes when it is used to enhance human capabilities, not replace them. From medical tools that help doctors make better decisions to frameworks that center empathy, creativity, and judgment, this work shows that the most transformative applications of AI are those that elevate distinctly human strengths. Locke’s message is clear: “We can work to invent a future where artificial intelligence extends what humans can do to improve organizations and the world.” For today’s leaders, it’s a call to choose a path of innovation that “not only includes humans, but makes the most of our humanity.” Read “Choose the human path for AI”: https://lnkd.in/e4hQw3qG
