Through our partnership with RAD-AID International, a Sun Nuclear mammography phantom was recently used to support hands-on training in Guyana, where breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths and mammography only became available in the public sector in 2019. Medical Physicist and RAD-AID Volunteer, Patricia Svolos, worked with radiology teams across multiple hospitals using the phantom. She was able to train local physicists, complete a performance evaluation for a newly installed mammography system, and perform required QC tests. Collaborations like this help strengthen medical imaging quality and ensure high standards of care in communities that need it most. Check the comments for more information on RAD-AID’s Medical Physics program and opportunities to volunteer.
