When our Protection Officer Wei Lin responded to her first case, she met Amy*, a 7-year-old who was neglected. She had been left in the care of her grandparents who did not want her after her parents divorced. Wei Lin’s team spoke with Amy’s grandparents, estranged mother, teacher and medical social worker, and it was ultimately decided it was in Amy’s best interests to be placed in a residential home. This ensured Amy would have protection and support to build a safer and stable future. “As much as the work can be really tough at times, the moment of progress and the healing is what makes it all worthwhile,” says Wei Lin.
