Are Glencore's coal woes an issue or not? Well, depends how you look at it. If you are, say, Gary Nagle, a coal demerger is not off the table, but it's also not in his eyeline. And no wonder. A recent note from RBC Capital Markets claimed the coal outlook was "unexciting", but at current price levels was a useful FCF generator for the company ($1.4bn in 2026e) and would help finance future capex for its expanding copper portfolio.
