“There is no recovery without accountability.”   That was the clear message from our Justice as a Foundation for Recovery event on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland, this week.   We heard deeply confronting accounts of violations of international humanitarian law committed during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including crimes against children. The impacts of these atrocities extend far beyond individual victims, reverberating through families and communities.   Yet amid the devastation, one conviction remains unwavering: justice must – and will – prevail.   We support organisations working tirelessly to pursue accountability, including Save Ukraine, the Center for Civil Liberties and InterJust. Their teams are documenting evidence, supporting survivors and helping ensure those responsible are held accountable.   While it is hard to fathom the atrocities committed, our partners are working day-in, day-out to ensure justice is pursued and those impacted are supported to heal.   Recovery cannot be built on impunity.
