Meet Violet the Quokka. She could help transform the way we monitor life in our ocean. Built by TJ Lawson, a research technician from CSIRO, the Quokka is an automated eDNA sampler currently collecting seawater samples throughout our expedition. By installing this technology onboard a private vessel, we're exploring new ways to scale biodiversity monitoring and collect data across much larger areas of the ocean. Once the voyage is complete, the samples will be analysed at the Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA Oceans Institute, helping reveal the species living beneath the surface and build a better understanding of ocean life.
