We're picking the brains of our waste consultants to give you the latest industry insight! ♻️ Here's an inside scoop on the biggest issue in the Australian waste industry, according to our waste consultant, Mitchell! 👇 "From our experience, the single biggest issue in the waste industry is plastic. Pallet and shrink wrap is the major issue due to sheer volume, as it often ends up in general waste bins and, subsequently, landfills. Every pallet unpacked in a warehouse is wrapped in plastic, and there are millions of them. There is a great opportunity here as Australian recyclers will pick up pallet wrap and recycle it every day of the week. To enable a free and efficient recycling service, the material needs to be compacted and baled, which is luckily a very cost-effective exercise compared to the costs of continuous pick-ups of expensive general waste bins. It's not unusual for a compactor to save a client up to 90% on their general waste costs, not to mention contributing to a big step forward in sustainability. Of course, it's not just pallet wrap... a range of plastics can now be recycled, including PET, HDPE, LDPE PP, and more. As a business, a simple enquiry can help you refrain from defaulting to the general waste bins and landfill. I think it’s a simple education piece. The market is really starting to take note and move in this direction, which is great to see. That being said, there is still a long way to go." Do you agree with Mitch?
