DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? Saturday was the 40th anniversary of the Miracle On Ice when the US beat the Soviet Union at Lake Placid's 1980 Winter Olympics....but that wasn't even the coolest hockey story of the day! After two goalies were forced out of the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Carolina Hurricanes turned to 42 year old David Ayres. Ayres was the emergency-backup goalie who usually works as a practice player & the Zamboni driver, but took advantage of his opportunity and won the game!! The victory made Ayres the first emergency goalie to win a game & the oldest goalie to win a regular season debut in NHL history. After the game, Ayres said, "Once in a lifetime. I'll take it."
