A native of Pennsylvania, he grew up both watching & idolizing Bernie Parent as he minded the net for the Broad Street Bullies-era Philadelphia Flyers. An elite goaltender in his own right by the time he reached college, he was taken 28th overall by the New York Rangers LLC in the 1985 NHL Draft. Debuting during the 1989 NHL Playoffs, he’d soon become the Rangers’ no. 1 goaltender & over the course of the next 14 years, he’d make the all star team 3 times, & lead the Blueshirts to the playoffs 7 times including most notably to an epic run to the Stanley Cup & the Rangers first championship since 1940 in 1994. Retiring in 2003, his no. 35 was raised to the rafters at MSG in 2004. Continuing his education, he’d graduate from Yale University & parlay the skills learned at the prestigious institution into his current role as president of energy conservation company Brightcore Energy. He’s Michael Richter & on May 18 he’ll join me on the Mic’d In New Haven Podcast.
