Post by Mike Manley
Interim Group Leader for the Neutron and X-ray Scattering Group
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for a postdoctoral position in the Neutron and X-ray Scattering Group (NXSG). This position will support science programs funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) in the Materials Sciences and Technology Division (MSTD). The successful candidate will be expected to work effectively under general supervision with NXSG scientists at neutron national user facilities such as the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). The scientific focus will be on using neutron scattering to probe the structure and dynamics of materials relevant to energy applications and/or structural materials. In particular, the work will aim to (1) understand how hybridized atomic vibrations control energy transport and functionality and (2) develop an understanding of scattering–elasticity relationships in quantum and magnetic materials. Research thrusts for the position may include: (1) understanding dynamics in quantum materials; (2) investigating thermal transport, phase stability, and thermomechanical response through combined neutron-based measurements and complementary techniques; and (3) developing advanced methods for inelastic neutron scattering data analysis and workflow automation. The postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with Dr. Raphaël Hermann and Dr. Michael Manley. https://lnkd.in/gTJ22GfE
