šŸš€ Project Showcase | Autonomous Mechatronic Robot for Product Selection and Quantity Counting As part of the ME5212 – Mechatronics System Design module at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, University of Ruhuna, our team successfully designed and developed an Autonomous Mechatronic Robot for Product Selection and Quantity Counting. šŸ‘„ Team Members • Deepthika I.K. • Mihiri Lakmini (Lakmini S.M.) • Manathunga M.M.H.A. • Senarathna D.P.V.C. The project integrates robotics, computer vision, embedded systems, and artificial intelligence to automate supermarket inventory monitoring. Key Features āœ… Real-time product detection and counting using YOLOv8 āœ… QR code-based product identification āœ… Live stock quantity display āœ… Audio alerts for low inventory levels āœ… Integration of mechanical, electronic, and software systems into a complete mechatronic solution My Contributions • Participated in the project planning and mechanical design selection. • Contributed to the design of the rack-and-pinion camera movement mechanism. • Collected and prepared image datasets for AI model training. • Developed the Arduino-based motor control system using a DC motor with an encoder and an L293D motor driver. • Created the voice alert system and contributed to software integration, debugging, and system testing. Technologies Used šŸ”¹ Python šŸ”¹ YOLOv8 šŸ”¹ OpenCV šŸ”¹ Raspberry Pi šŸ”¹ Arduino Uno šŸ”¹ QR Code Recognition šŸ”¹ SolidWorks šŸ”¹ Tinkercad šŸ”¹ Fritzing Working on this project strengthened my skills in mechatronics, robotics, embedded systems, AI-based computer vision, mechanical design, and collaborative engineering. It was a valuable opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to solve a practical engineering problem through teamwork. šŸŽ„ Attached is an animation demonstrating the working principle of our proposed system. #Mechatronics #Robotics #ArtificialIntelligence #ComputerVision #YOLO #Python #Arduino #RaspberryPi #SolidWorks #Engineering #UniversityOfRuhuna #MechanicalEngineering
